“You feel the pain, but you’re glad to be there”
– Richard Virenque
Embark on an exhilarating journey through the majestic Dolomites, an exquisitely designed route for those with a passion for cycling and a love of breathtaking scenery. This round trip features the crossing of four iconic mountain passes, each offering a unique perspective of the breathtaking surroundings.
Your adventure begins in the charming town of Moena in the Val di Fassa. The ride begins with a gentle climb along a dedicated cycle path, the perfect warm-up for the formidable climb ahead - the infamous Passo Pordoi, the highest road pass in the Dolomites. On the way up, take a moment to admire the historic hotel that line the road, a testament to the region's rich heritage. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Arabba Valley, the perfect place to take a break.
Energised, you can then tackle the modest but rewarding ascent of the Passo Campolongo. This climb is the prelude to the Passo Gardena - a climb renowned for its breathtaking scenery. The twisting hairpin bends will test your legs but offer an ever-changing tableau of spectacular views. The descent is exhilarating and leads you towards Passo Sella.
The energy coming from the landscape is tangible, but the altitude gained will certainly remind you of your efforts. Once you reach the Passo Sella, take a deep breath and take in the remarkable surroundings; the panoramic views will lift your spirits.
Having satisfied your climbing ambitions, a delightful descent awaits you on a gradually sloping road back to Moena. We recommend that you take the road rather than the cycle path, as the thrill of speed will add an enjoyable dimension to your return journey. Gliding through the tranquil Val di Fassa, you'll find the ideal end to your ride in the piazza of this picturesque village.
Surrounded by the stunning beauty of the Latemar, Marmolada and Rosengarten mountains, this is the perfect starting point for your next climbing adventure. For those who want to explore further, the nearby passes of Passo San Pellegrino, Passo di Costalunga or Passo Fedaia offer additional routes to discover.
